Position Summary: The Program and Events Director position plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing Chamber membership, services, and programs. Responsibilities include program/event management as well as daily Chamber operations.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Schedule, coordinate, and execute all Chamber networking and fundraising events and programs.
- Develop new events and programs as needed to serve members and the Chamber’s mission.
- Help to secure sponsorships for programs and events.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with members and partners, while constantly striving to increase attendance.
- Develop event feedback surveys when appropriate.
- Serve as a liaison to the Chamber committees to provide recruitment, training, and coaching. Help to determine program/event budgets and work within the parameters.
- Help to acquire and retain new Chamber members.
- Provide weekly statistical reports on events and programs in staff meetings.
- Manage the info email.
- Along with the President, negotiate contracts and pricing for venues, contractors, and other businesses that the Chamber works with for events and programs
- Develop vendor and venue relationships.
- Create signage and handouts for events along with the communication director.
- Contribute and present monthly updates to the board of directors on programs and events.
- Attend, along with the President, corporate partner, city, and other fundraising meetings.
- Communicate, along with the President, regarding legislative matters with our elected officials.
- Administrative duties as needed.
- Help to serve as a photographer at events as necessary.
- Prepare and submit a monthly expense report for credit card and mileage expenses.
- Create visibility and recognition of the NEJC Chamber and its businesses through community involvement.
Skills and aptitudes/Qualifications required:
- Proven success in planning and executing events of all sizes. From small meetings to large signature events, across in-person, virtual, and hybrid formats.
- Demonstrated proficiency in sponsorship development, creative and innovative event design, and event marketing strategies that boost engagement and measurable results.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience in budgeting, aligning resources with strategic goals, and fundamental financial reporting.
- Experience planning events and fundraising in a membership/association environment is a plus.
- Experience negotiating and executing venue, catering, and other contracts is a plus.
- Resilient self-starter with demonstrated desire and ability to take initiative, solve problems, negotiate terms, and drive results.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and strong time management skills, able to juggle multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
- Flexible and adaptable when faced with change or unexpected challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to confidently function both independently and in a fast-paced collaborative team environment requiring communication and respect.
- Aptitude for working with volunteers and building relationships.
- A Bachelor’s degree preferred: a minimum of three years of demonstrated relevant experience is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication, with strong writing, conversational, and presentation skills, and sound grammar competence.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, managing CRM databases (Growth Zone), and working with social media platforms.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed. The position requires some early mornings and late evenings.
- This position involves a mix of seated and active work, including navigating stairs within the NEJC Chamber office.
Accountability:
Position reports to and is directly accountable to the CEO and President.
Compensation, Benefits, and Perks: Compensation commensurate with experience and skills. Benefits include options with health, dental, and vision insurance. Paid two-week vacation after six months of employment. One week of paid vacation from Christmas Eve to New Year's is not included in the two weeks. Paid Holidays and mileage reimbursement.
